Actress Varalakshmi, the daughter of ‘Supreme Star’ Sarathkumar debuted with a moderately successful film ‘Poda Podi’
opposite Simbu.
Though her performance was well appreciated in the film, the young lass was not seen in Tamil films after that. The only Tamil film she acted after ‘Poda Podi’ was ‘Madha Gaja Raja’ and that film stuck in financial issues is long pending for release.
Meanwhile Varalakshmi fondly addressed as Varu got an offer to star in a Kannada film ‘Maanikya’ with Sudheep of ‘Naan Ee’ fame. The film based which was the remake of Telugu film ‘Mirchi’ has been declared as a super hit and Varu’s performance is being well appreciated by fans and critics
Varu has said that she accepted the role in ‘Maanikya’ just because it was a rural subject. She acted as a bubbly modern girl in ‘Poda Podi’ and she did not want to be typecast in urbane roles. Post ‘Maanikya’ Varu is on the verge of signing a few more Kannada offers.
Meanwhile Varu’s Tamil career is going to reach a new height, as she has been selected to play the female lead role in National Award winning director Bala’s upcoming film ‘Tharai Thappattai’ that is yet to go on floors.
Varu has been instructed by the acclaimed director to reduce 10 kgs of her body weight. Varu has said that she has already reduced 6 kgs and working out for shedding four more kilos.
She is also attending rehearsals for what she calls her ‘dream role’ for the past one month. Varu has revealed that she does not know anything about the story or about her role in the film and she accepted the offer just because it came from a filmmaker like Bala.
